Behind the Story

By Aaron Cheris

Over my years at the Albany Student Press, I've extensively covered the University at Albany women's basketball team, a subject I was very unfamiliar with before I came to school here.

With the women's team, I feel as though they are still searching for support although they shouldn't have to. They win more than the men's team during the regular season, and they are just flat out better compared to their competition than the men. Although the men had thier great postseason moment last March, the women are too dominant to need a moment like that one.

I enjoy covering the team, and I feel like they enjoy having me cover them. I've gone on a road trip on the team bus, sat down with Coach Abe in her office to talk, and met pretty much everyone on the team.

What intereted me with Shereesha Richards was the fact that she is just so good. Plain and simple. She may be the best athlete on campus, and she could be playing at an ACC school if she wanted to.

When I talked to Shereesha on the radio (left) during her sophomore year, she was just becoming dominant so I don't even think she knew how good she could be.

Now, the target on her back is bigger than ever and I was happy to see that she was still candid and honest while talking to me.

I hope they have another great year, and I can't wait to see how Shereesha rewrites the record book.
